This site is dedicated to motorcycles built using frames manufactured by Spondon Engineering of Spondon, Derby in the UK. It is the main webpage for the Spondon Owners Club.
WHAT IS THE S.O.C.?
The Spondon Owners club was formed in the late 80's by a group of lads that met over the course of building their bikes. We received great encouragement from 'Sweary Bob' (Bob Stevenson, one of the partners in Spondon Engineering) and he attended all the piss-ups........errrrr........I mean 'meetings', along with his lovely wife Lesley, as they enjoyed the odd tipple or two!
There was a hardcore group of about a dozen lads that were dotted around the country and we would meet up about every 3 months or so, at a location dictated by who had been foolish enough to offer to be the next host for the evening. It was an opportunity to see what everyone had been up to, shoot the breeze, have a beer or six and to meet new faces as more got added to the group. We got rat-arsed at places as diverse as Edinburgh, Cumbria, Newcastle and London, with many more in between and I met many great friends, of which most I am still in touch with today.
However, life moves on, priorities change and many sold their bikes. There are still a hardcore of about half a dozen of us that still meet regularly and I set up this website a few years ago to try and gather more people to get involved. We also have a facebook page and the website has recently had an overhaul to reflect the many new members that have come through that page. There is also a link to the Spondon Owners club forum, which is available to those that don't 'do' Facebook.
Sweary Bob retired to Cyprus but unfortunately passed away in the summer of 2012. The world is now missing, what can only be described as an engineering genius, a maverick in the motorcycle world that came up with some astonishing ideas and designs, told it like it is and is sorely missed by all of us in the club. R.I.P. Bobby, there'll never be another, enjoy a few drops of that shit Costco Whiskey wherever you are mate!
